Weekly update

On your mark, get set... Well, we finally had a week of summer weather! Going up 30 degrees in 3 days was a little disconcerting, but it was nice to see the sun stick around for awhile. That’s all over for now, of course, but I like the cooler weather better anyway.

Splash! CareBear and LiliBee had a great sleep over down in Olympia last week. I hear that they spent a lot of time bouncing in the bounce house and running through the sprinkler. They also enjoyed popsicles, uninterrupted play with their cousin and exhausting Grandma. LiliBee came home with an amazing tan… she’s so lucky, the rest of us just burn in the sun! They were pretty tired when they came back but had a lot to tell me.

AliBoo is getting big! AliBoo and I enjoyed our “alone time”. We both missed the big girls, but it was nice to just have some mellow time to play AliBoo’s games… her favorite is “peek a boo”. She was pretty talkative and even started to giggle a little this week!  This morning, she rolled from her side to her tummy and then onto her back… I’m pretty sure it was just momentum from Lilia plopping down on the bed next to her (so the mattress sloped) and she was really surprised by it, but it was exciting nonetheless. She’s going to start doing all kinds of things soon. I’m not sure I’m ready for that!

Tired baby. Chris took me out to a movie last week while the big girls were gone (thanks to Grams and Pas for watching the cranky, “abandoned” baby). We went to see Eclipse, ate overly salty popcorn and avoided broken theater seats. It was great!

Farmer's market. This weekend, we hit the Farmer’s Market. I’ve been wanting to go all season, but I was there to sit at the preschool booth so I didn’t get to look around much. Chris and the kids had a great time on the bounce houses and the playground, though. The girls talked him into getting balloons and shaved ice, too!

Four on a couch. We also had a surprise play date on Sunday with AuntieT and Z-bear (finally)! The kids had a good time playing and snacking while AuntieT and I visited. Meanwhile, Chris spent the afternoon on the roof cleaning up after the winter (and the fireworks) and doing battle with the moles in the backyard. We’ve given up on getting rid of the wasps and are just staying inside for now but there’s still a chance to beat the moles.

The Dork. I’m looking forward to some park fun this week and I might even catch up on the laundry.

Weekly update

Fourth of July! I hope everyone had a fun 4th of July! It was unseasonably cold and rainy but at least we didn’t have to worry about the neighbors lighting our house on fire.

Fourth of July! We spent most of the week unsure of our plans… CareBear came down with a fever and cough on Tuesday and LiliBee followed on Thursday. Luckily, they were both better in just a couple of days so the only real casualties were the park play dates and their planned sleep-over with cousin H.

Fourth of July! Our 4th was busy and fun. We spent the afternoon down in Olympia having BBQ at Chris’ folk’s place. The girls had a great time playing and learning all about those pop-its (or whatever they are) and sparklers. The weather cooperated and didn’t rain on us so we were able to enjoy some outside time even if it was a little chilly! AliBoo was annoyed by the change in her routine, but she got lots of attention so that made up for some of that.

Fourth of July! In the evening, we made our way back up to Puyallup to watch the fireworks from my parent’s deck. They have a great view of the valley so we get a free show every year! After more tasty BBQ and playing, we settled in for the show. AliBoo quickly decided that it was past her bedtime so she hung out with Chris inside. LiliBee liked the fireworks at first but thought that the close ones were way too loud so she headed in with the uncle. CareBear, on the other hand, loved everything about the fireworks show. She told me several times that it was the best night ever and would scream and clap every time something exploded. She pretty much wore herself out with her own enthusiasm!

Fourth of July! We spent a very quiet Monday recovering and relaxing (resulting in this email being a day late!). This week will be lots of fun since CareBear and LiliBee headed off to their rescheduled sleep-over this morning. They won’t be back until Thursday so I’m glad the weather has turned around and they’ll get lots of fun outside time… especially since we’re still wasp-infested here so our outside options are limited. AliBoo is enjoying her “only child” status, of course. It’s a novelty for her to be the center of attention all day (it’s tough being the third child). Chris and I are taking advantage of the “vacation” and dropping AliBoo off with my folks for a few hours tomorrow so we can go on a movie date!

Weekly update

Aren't you too big for that? We had a brief summer last week! It was sunny and nice and we played outside. And today, it’s back to cloudy and we can’t go outside because wasps have taken over our backyard and I can’t tell where they’re coming from… anyone have tips on getting rid of them? At least it’s warmer now!

AliBoo meets trout. We had a fun trip to a park downtown to picnic with some of the preschool kids. CareBear and LiliBee were explorers for awhile and AliBoo enjoyed the warm weather. Our other preschool trip for the week was to the Kid’s Expo at Bill’s Fishin’ Hole. It was apparently the first year for it so turnout was a little on the slow side, but the kids had a great time fishing (those were very hungry fish so there was lots of catching going on). They were also able to make picture frames out of popsicle sticks and hand feed some of the trout. CareBear decided she didn’t like the floppy fish and so LiliBee has been obsessed with that ever since… even though they haven’t been floppy for a couple of days now! We had a wonderful trout dinner last night cooked by Chris.

Little dancers. CareBear had her first dance class on Saturday. She was very excited to wear her new outfit and could hardly contain herself waiting for the class to start. It was very cute watching all of the 3-4 year olds learning how to curtsy and plie. Meanwhile, LiliBee had fun in gymnastics doing obstacle courses and getting Chris to jump into the foam pit with her. Not a bad way to spend a morning!

Three months old! The rest of our week was pretty boring with the usual shopping and errands. We’re getting the hang of our summer (school-free) schedule. The kids have been enjoying the change of pace, I think.

Must have been a crazy morning. This week should be fun. I’m not sure what we’ll be doing, but there are play dates, sleep overs and fireworks watching in the works! It will also be Lucy’s worst week of the year. She really hates firecrackers so she’ll spend most of her time cowering behind the claw foot tub in the bathroom. I just hope the weather gets better and the wasps go away!

Weekly update

CareBear is a computer addict. Happy Summer! No, really, it’s what the calendar says. It’s summer. Really.

AliBoo at 12 weeks old! We had a hit and miss kind of week… one play date called due to rain, one called due to illness (them, not us, this time) and we ended up skipping Meeker Days. I was looking forward to going to that but the weather combined with the flaky kids kind of made it more trouble than it was worth! We managed to enjoy or weekend anyway, though.

AliBoo is almost 3 months old! We went for a rainy picnic in the park last week. CareBear and LiliBee didn’t seem to mind the wet play equipment and enjoyed themselves quite a bit! I would have thought that they might object to the wet pants, but apparently the lure of the slides was too great. Of course, our “picnic” took place in the car. It’s Washington, we’re used to that.

LiliBee is on a chipmunk. The girls had a fun day down at Grandma’s. They got to play with cousin H all day and I hear that LiliBee learned how to drive the jeeps. I know she’s been jealous of the kids who could drive them so I’m not surprised. I asked CareBear if she was going to drive the jeep, too, or just let H and LiliBee drive her around. She’s decided that she likes to be chauffeured.

AliBoo complains. Meanwhile, AliBoo and I had a day all to ourselves! We did all of her favorite things: snuggling, nursing, napping, smiling, screaming. It was a good day for AliBoo… she got all of the attention!

Big beds! Our biggest news of the week, though, is the bed hopping that’s been going on! We brought our “guest bed” into the girls’ room this weekend for CareBear. She is officially in her “big girl bed” and loves it. She likes to tell me that she has the biggest bed in the whole house. LiliBee moved out of the crib and into the “little girl bed” (toddler bed). That leaves the crib free for AliBoo, whenever she’s ready to move out of our room. We took a special shopping trip to pick out new blankets and sheets for the beds so now there’s a whole lot of pink in the room.

Father's day. Father’s Day was pretty mellow. The girls and I made Chris breakfast and gave him his homemade gifts and card (his “real” gift he bought for himself at the radio convention!). We had a mostly leisurely day and Chris got to watch his Sci-Fi shows practically uninterrupted.

CareBear is on a horse. This week is getting busier by the minute! I have lots of treasurer stuff to catch up with and I’m still doing half of the publicity for the preschool. This weekend is the start of the new session at the Y. LiliBee is taking toddler gym again and CareBear is taking her first dance class! We’ll also be out at Bill’s Fishin’ Hole in Orting for their Kids Expo on Saturday… our preschool has a booth there and I’ll be volunteering from 1:30-3. If anyone is in the area, feel free to stop by! It’s free and they’re even going to have raffles, stunt planes and a slime booth (whatever that is, I’m sure the kids will love it though). I’m hoping that our play dates actually work out this week, but I’m not counting on it!

Weekly update, vacation edition

Seaside 2010 We’ve returned to the regular world. Vacation was fantastic and we even had a couple of nice days!

Seaside 2010 We spent a week in Seaside for the annual Ham Radio Convention. Chris had a good time going to talks and buying technology. He even found a cheap laptop for our preschool’s financial records! We missed him while he was gone, but the girls and I managed to keep ourselves busy. He did take us to the local radio club’s spaghetti feed… the kids had a great time and we even won one of the door prizes.

Seaside 2010 We spent a lot of time on the beach. Chris made the girls a sand fort and blew bubbles for them to chase. I tried to convince them to wade in the ocean with me with limited success. The water was a little cold, but that doesn’t actually stop me. We also took a couple of walks along the river, did some window shopping, visited our favorite ice cream shop and rode the carousel. We went to the little aquarium, where LiliBee enjoyed the touch tank and CareBear talked to the octopus. We fed the seals and tried to avoid the splashing, though the girls weren’t sure of the raw fish chunks.

Seaside 2010 Around the middle of our trip, my folks joined us! They were in the cottage next door to us, which was very exciting fir the kids. We showed them all of our favorite places and had a picnic on the beach. We build “pools” of sand to play in and flew a kite. The grandparents brought some nice weather with them so CareBear, AliBoo and I all got a little sunburned… LiliBee just tanned, lucky girl. I’ll have to remember to double up on the sunscreen next time!

Seaside 2010 Chris and I were even able to sneak away for a quick date night (thanks, Grams and Pas!). AliBoo isn’t too keen on being left behind just yet so we weren’t gone long… just long enough for a quiet dinner and a walk on the beach. It was very relaxing.

Seaside 2010 We got our pictures taken at “Flash from the Past” in the carousel mall again. We love that place! They’re so nice and even seem to enjoy the chaos that is our family. It was a lot of fun.

And now it’s all over until next year!

Seaside 2010 The rest of the last couple of weeks was spent either getting ready for vacation or recovering from it! AliBoo had a check up (she’s healthy and up to 11 pounds!). We finished up this session of classes at the Y. And I became treasurer for the preschool.

Seaside 2010 This week looks to be pretty nice, weather-wise. We’ve been enjoying our meals outside and spending a lot of time on the swing set. The big kids will be having a play date with cousin H later this week and we might meet up with some of the preschool kids for some fun at the park. I have a dentist appointment and my first board meeting. I’m hoping to go to Meeker Days this weekend (I think it’s this weekend and, of course, there’s Father’s Day on Sunday!

Come to think of it, we’re busier than I thought!

Weekly update

Good morning! Happy Memorial Day! I know it doesn’t feel like the (unofficial) beginning of summer around here yet, but the sun actually came out today so that’s a start. I am looking forward to being able to send the kids outside to play soon, though.

Alice chats with Lucy. I had hopes of (finally) having a doctor free week, but I ended up going in to get my ear looked at since I hadn’t recovered from my ear infection a few weeks ago. It’s much better now. Then CareBear got another UTI so she got to go in, too! I wish we could figure out how to stop that, but we’re getting good at recognizing them early. The cold we all came down with last week was very mild, at least.

Fruit cereal leis. CareBear had her last day of school and we all had a great time. LiliBee was thrilled to get to stay at school. She felt like such a big girl playing with the other kids. There was a beach party theme to the day so we decorated paper surf board, “fished” for plastic fish and made fruit loop leis. AliBoo wasn’t thrilled with the lack of dedicated snuggling time but she seemed to enjoy watching the kids have their snack time, once she was fed of course.

Helping Papa. Our weekend was pretty low key. We’re getting ready for our annual trip to the ham radio convention, but it’s going a little more slowly this year. I keep having to stop and pick up a baby or feed a couple of children! I keep hoping to get the house somewhat cleaned up for our house sitter, but I’m not sure how much of that is going to get done.

Sunday morning with Papa. Chris is officially on vacation (well, starting tomorrow since today is a holiday). He’s celebrating by taking care of all of the things on my list that I’m not getting to. He’s handy like that. I think he’s enjoying the break from work, though.

I'm surrounded. AliBoo is getting more and more entertained by us. She loves to smile… as long as she’s getting her way. I’m starting to think that her temperament and personality might fall somewhere in between CarrBear and LiliBee. She’s not as laid back and mellow as LiliBee but also not as fussy and particular as CareBear was. We’ll find out tomorrow how big she is now.

I wanna be a cowboy... The girls are pretty excited about going to Seaside. CareBear is counting the days until we leave and LiliBee keeps pulling out toys that she wants to take with us. It looks like it’s going to be rainy down there for the first half of our vacation, but there’s hope for the beginning of next week!

Follow me! There probably won’t be much of an update next week (if at all), but I’ll probably upload some pictures up on the website or facebook if anyone cares to check there.

Weekly update

Zzzz It was an interesting weather week around here, wasn’t it? We had just about everything roll through, which meant we spent a lot of time inside. Alice was ok with that, but the bigger kids got a little bored.

Whee! We did have a fun outing to the park for a preschool birthday party. The birthday girl was extremely lucky and had sunny skies for the 2 hours of her party (it rained hard both before and after!). CareBear and LiliBee had a great time playing, other than CareBear’s fall into the muddy bank of the creek… she didn’t like that at all.

We had a follow up appointment for CareBear’s tests and were happy to hear that they were pretty much normal. Good news for the brave patient!

Road trip! LiliBee continued the tradition of drawing on the couch this week. Sometimes I wonder why I give them art supplies at all! On the other hand, she made lovely black stripes all up and down her legs so maybe it’s performance art.

Alice as Fred Mertz. AliBoo is officially 2 months old! She’s becoming very interested in what the rest of us are doing, though she can’t seem to figure us out just yet. We’ll find out next week how big she is.

Whee! Our planned play date was unfortunately canceled again (due to illness, their side this time). And it doesn’t look good for this week either! AliBoo woke up with a stuffy nose. CareBear woke up with a cough. And LiliBee is sneezing. Didn’t we just do this?

Pink and green for Yesterday was hair-cutting day around here. Chris’ hair was getting unruly so I gave my second haircut ever. Then CareBear wanted her hair cut, too, so I was going to give her a trim… but she moved! So both of them ended up with haircuts that were much shorter than I had planned, but at least they look ok.

Zzzz This week will involve lots of vacation preparation. We’ll also be celebrating the end of school for CareBear with a preschool family fun day. I’m not sure what that involves, but LiliBee and AliBoo and I get to stay at school on Thursday and play so it should be fun. Hopefully, we’ll all be well by next week!

Weekly update

Family photo with the ferry. Here we are, halfway through May, and I’ve lost all track of time! AliBoo will be 8 weeks old this week. We have just 4 more school days until Summer vacation since we only go twice a week. And it just now occurred to me that we go off on vacation to Seaside in two weeks!

Breakfast picnic. This week was lots of fun. We spent our nice days outside and even some of the rainy ones. Eating and/or drinking outside has become one of the favorite activities around here. CareBear has adopted the ants in the yard and spends a lot of time talking to them and keeping LiliBee from stepping on them. Luckily, LiliBee is little and usually barefoot so she does very little damage either way.

My brave CareBear. CareBear had her big appointment at Mary Bridge for the tests to find out if there’s a physical cause for her UTIs. The tests weren’t much fun, but CareBear was about as brave as could be expected. She actually only really objected to one part of one of the tests and was very cooperative otherwise. We should get the results sometime this week. LiliBee and AliBoo stayed with my folks while we were there… LiliBee had a great time, AliBoo mostly wondered where I was (sometimes loudly, I hear).

Beach picnic. We had a big, fun field trip to the Vashon Ferry with the preschool. We had the misfortune of showing up on a day when the boat without an outside deck was running, which means that two or three preschool classes were trapped inside a stuffy little room (standing room only by the time we all crammed in there) for the trip over and back. The kids had a good time watching the cars load up and looking out the windows but they were pretty much done with it halfway through the trip. We then converged on Owens Beach, which was much more successful. The weather was beautiful and  warm enough that the kids could wade in the water without being too hot. Our teacher set up a little tide pool and gather some starfish and crabs for the kids too look at and touch. LiliBee was fascinated by that. CareBear spent a lot of time throwing rocks in the water and running around with her friends. Chris was able to join us for the ferry ride before heading off to work, which was very exciting for the girls.

CareBear wading. It was the first week of classes at the Y for this session. LiliBee is in a parent/child toddler gym (mostly chaotic running around with an obstacle course and circle time thrown in) and she’s pretty excited about having her own gymnastics class. CareBear is back in preschool gymnastics after taking a couple of months off to do swimming. She learned how to do the bear walk on the balance beam and is working on backwards rolls. Of course, she also does a lot of running around.

AliBoo in the sun. AliBoo is getting the hang of being a person now. She likes taking baths. She will occasionally let me put her down to make lunch or something without throwing a fit. And she woke up smiling today! (It gives me hope that I might actually be a productive member of the household again, eventually.) She’s pretty cute, too.

LiliBee is a stah! This week will bring “fun” days at school… we’ll be wearing our clothes backwards one day and wearing our favorite color on another. We have a preschool birthday party in the park on the weekend. And I hope to have a play date at some point! If only I could remember what else we’re supposed to do this week.

The return of the weekly update

Thinking. Ok, I was a total slacker for the last month or so. Chris finally called me on it, so the blog returns! Unfortunately, it looks like my formatting is  going to need attention and I don’t know why the pictures won’t let me resize them. Guess the website feels neglected! But, that’s a problem for another time. Until then… the weekly update!

My big girls. I hope everyone was able to enjoy the nice weekend and/or Mother’s Day. We had a pretty good time around here. The weather this weekend was so pretty that we spent most of it outside. CareBear and LiliBee had a great time running around, playing and helping with the yard work and AliBoo soaked up some sun and then complained that no one was holding her. We also had lots of “picnics”… I’m pretty sure they’d eat all of their meals outside if they could.

Happy Mother's Day! Mother’s Day was a pretty big event this year. CareBear is old enough to really get into it and LiliBee is always happy to go along with her. Chris took the girls to pick out a present, which turned into a big outing for them. They picked out a lovely locket necklace for me… heart shaped with “mom” on it. Now I just have to get some pictures printed up to go inside. I also received a couple of dry pasta and yarn necklaces and breakfast in bed! It was a very nice morning.

AliBoo and Papa. Unfortunately, I also got an ear infection for Mother’s Day so I got to spend some quality time at the urgent care clinic. My infection has since turned into a ruptured ear drum so I’m having a lot of fun now. At least my post-partum appointment went well and I’m cleared to lift small children again.

Sprinklers? The girls celebrated the 70 degree weather by running through the sprinkler. Chris and I tried to talk them out of it, but they were insistent. They actually had a great time and didn’t get cold, believe it or not. I thought they were crazy.

Happy Mother's Day, Grams! This week should be interesting… CareBear is off to Mary Bridge for some testing, AliBoo will stay with Grams and Pas for the first time, we may or may not have a preschool field trip and both LiliBee and CareBear get to start another round of gymnastics at the Y. With any luck, we’ll shake off this run of annoying health problems and I’ll get to tackle all of the stuff that I’ve let slide for the last couple of months!
